Roots Before Fruit

We often admire the fruit — the visible success, the evidence of a life well-lived. But the strength of that fruit comes from what lies beneath: the roots. Psalm 1:3 reminds us: “That a person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.”
Growth starts with being planted. Roots dig deep into Scripture, prayer, and fellowship. They soak up nourishment from God’s presence, sustaining us through dry seasons. Pat and I have seen that the most resilient lives aren’t necessarily the ones that never face challenges — they’re the ones deeply rooted in God’s Word and the Holy Spirit.
Take time to examine your roots. Are they feeding your spirit? Are they reaching deep into God’s truth? Strong roots create life that endures, fruit that blesses, and leaves that don’t wither under pressure.
Reflection Thought:Where are your roots planted today? How can you deepen them so your life bears lasting fruit?
