Let’s face it: Sundays used to be a whirlwind. Growing up in the ‘50s, ‘60s, and even ‘70s, Sundays were anything but restful. Early alarms, polished shoes, kids in their Sunday best, and a packed schedule of services and meetings. It was all so predictable: hymns, prayers, announcements, more hymns, a sermon (maybe with an altar call), a final prayer to send everyone off, then back to the evening service. Some of you reading this may not fully appreciate it if you haven’t had the delightful experience of being part of it. But others will smile, remembering those days, and some might still be living this kind of Sunday church experience. I, too, recall these types of services from my upbringing in the late 1940s, then the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s. In fact, these were the services I was part of in the early days of my ministry. I hope you take this in the humorous spirit intended but also grasp my point.
